How Tripoint Lending Works

One short request, a soft credit inquiry and a side-by-side look at offers from lenders in our network. Here is each step, from start to repayment, explained plainly.

Tripoint Lending connects U.S. adults with lenders that offer personal loans from $500 to $5,000. The process takes a few minutes, it is free to use, and checking offers will not affect your credit score. Below are the five steps, followed by a closer look at what happens behind each one.

The Five Steps at a Glance

Getting matched through Tripoint Lending follows five steps: submit a request, pass a soft credit check, receive matches, compare and accept an offer, then repay the lender directly.

  1. Submit your request. Choose an amount between $500 and $5,000, tell us what the loan is for, and fill in basic personal, income and banking details. The form usually takes about five minutes.
  2. Soft credit inquiry. We run a soft credit check to understand your general credit profile. A soft inquiry does not affect your credit score.
  3. Get matched with lenders. Your request is shared with lenders in our network whose criteria may fit your profile and state. Interested lenders may present an offer or invite you to continue on their site.
  4. Review and accept an offer. Compare APR, fees, term and monthly payment for each offer. If you choose one, you finish the application with that lender, which may run a hard credit inquiry.
  5. Get funded and repay. After final approval, funds are often deposited as soon as the next business day, depending on the lender and your bank. You then repay the lender on the agreed schedule.

What Information We Collect

Tripoint Lending asks only for details lenders need to evaluate a loan request: identity, contact, income, employment, housing, banking and the loan amount and purpose.

  • Name, date of birth, address, email and phone number
  • Last four or full Social Security number, used to verify identity and run the soft inquiry
  • Employment status, income amount and pay frequency
  • Bank account type, used by lenders for deposits and repayment setup
  • Requested amount and loan purpose, such as a vet bill or debt consolidation

Our privacy policy explains how this information is protected and shared.

How the Soft Credit Inquiry Works

A soft credit inquiry lets Tripoint Lending and lenders review your credit profile without any impact on your credit score, and other creditors cannot see it.

A hard inquiry is different. It happens only if you accept an offer and continue with a specific lender, and it may lower your score by a few points for a short period. You choose whether to move forward, so you control when a hard inquiry happens.

How Lender Matching Works

Lender matching compares your request against each network lender's own criteria, such as credit range, income, state of residence and loan amount, to find lenders that may make an offer.

Not every request receives an offer. Lenders decide independently, and availability varies by state. Lenders compensate us for connections, and that may affect which offers appear or their order, as our advertiser disclosure explains. Compensation never affects a lender's credit decision.

Reviewing Your Offers

Each offer should be judged on total cost, so compare the APR, any origination fee, the term length, the monthly payment and the total amount repaid before you accept.

Estimated APRs from lenders in our network typically range from about 6.99% to 35.99%. As a representative example, $2,000 borrowed over 12 months at 24.99% APR works out to about $190.08 per month, with about $2,280.94 repaid in total and about $280.94 in interest (estimate). Your actual rate depends on the lender, your credit and income. Our personal loan calculator lets you test other amounts and terms.

When You Receive Funds

Funding usually arrives by direct deposit as soon as the next business day after final approval, though timing depends on the lender, verification steps and your bank's processing schedule.

Weekends and bank holidays can add a day or two. Some lenders may ask for pay stubs or a bank statement before releasing funds, so having those ready can help.

Repaying Your Loan

Repayment happens directly with the lender you chose, usually through fixed monthly payments over about 3 to 24 months, and some lenders offer terms up to 36 months.

Questions about due dates, autopay, early payoff or hardship options go to your lender, because Tripoint Lending does not service loans. Setting up autopay and paying a little extra when you can may reduce the total interest you pay.

What It Costs to Use Tripoint Lending

Using Tripoint Lending costs nothing, and submitting a request carries no obligation to accept any offer that a lender presents.

We are paid by lenders in our network, not by borrowers. Any fees on your loan, such as an origination fee or late fee, are set by the lender and must appear in your loan agreement. If you have questions about any step, our support team is happy to help.
